If you have never heard of Oakdale Club before, then perhaps it is now your opportunity to get to know more about the Club and how it came to be.
Oakdale Club originated with a number of Eskom employees from the Oakdale and Bellville depots, practicing their sport at the Bellville and neighboring clubs. However, for some of them this was not good enough, they felt the need for colleagues to team up also as sportsmen, and thereafter relax in a social environment.
During October in 1961 a meeting was called for all those interested, where the subject of creating an own Club, was debated at length. There was consensus, and the decision to elect a Chairman and a steering committee, was indeed the first step towards the becoming of Oakdale Club. During the years to follow Eskom became very much involved with a subsequent name change to the ESCOM Club (Oakdale).
The cellar of the historic Bloemhof wine farm, then recently acquired by Eskom, served as the first Clubhouse until mid December 1968, when it was demolished to eventually be replaced by a brand new complex. The new Clubhouse was officially opened on the 10th of December 1970.
